About me
I’m Elowen, a Cornish contemporary folk artist based in Falmouth. My music is inspired by the landscapes I grew up in - forest, moorland, and ocean - and explores themes of nature, love, and grief. Through ethereal and honest vocals, intricate guitar melodies and rich, fluttering strings, I aim to create poignant songs that speak about big things in small ways.
I’m interested in how music connects people to each other, to place, and to something deeper. Whether performing solo or with my new band, The Waters, I want my music to hold space for reflection, connection, and a little bit of magic.
Music & Projects
I’ve been immersed in music for as long as I can remember - from a childhood singing harmonies in the wilderness, playing folk tunes around campfires, and performing in youth ensembles. Highlights from my early years include playing at the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall, and competing in the Pan Celtic Song Competition in Ireland.
At 15, I started playing violin with festival folk-rock band 3 Daft Monkeys, leading to being a longstanding feature at their performances around the UK, including Purbeck Folk Festival, the Minack theatre and the main stage at Beautiful Days. I have also worked with The People's String Foundation at the Minack theatre, as well as their live album Res Publica.
In 2019, I released my first single, Oak, a lullaby of sorts for the passing of my grandmother. Since then, I’ve explored various different musical projects, including the Glasshouse - an upbeat, collaborative band born from a summer spent recording in a disused industrial greenhouse. Our debut single was released in 2023, with an album on the way in summer 2025. I also feature on Callum Kenworthy’s single Call Me If You Get There and album After the Fire, playing violin, cello, and harmonies.
This year, I’m focusing on my own music, with a few singles in the works for summer 2025 and full album later in the year. Recent solo performances include Green Gathering and Nozstock festivals, as well as local venues like The Cornish Bank, The Poly, and The Fish Factory. My new band, The Waters, is bringing fresh depth and power to my sound, blending folk with more textural and dynamic elements.
Creative Work & Community
Beyond performing, I’m passionate about bringing creativity into different spaces. I’m exploring ways to take music beyond traditional gigs— incorporating my love for nature connection, crafts and community through workshops, retreats, and collaborations with other artists. I also make jewellery, love foraging and cooking, and want to help build a creative community that nourishes, empowers and inspires people to thrive in this difficult but beautiful world.
